Looking for a High Level of Customization for Your LASIK Surgery?
Custom LASIK might be your best option.
For many patients looking to regain their personal freedom and escape the hassles and irritation of glasses and contacts, LASIK might be the answer you’re looking for. This includes those with normal prescriptions or those with severe degrees of nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. For others, a more advanced and personalized LASIK procedure is now available. Custom LASIK, the gold standard in laser vision correction, allows your surgeon to increase the treatment range to include higher-order aberrations and gives you a truly customized procedure for your individual eyes.
About Custom LASIK
The actual Custom LASIK procedure is almost identical to standard LASIK. However, Custom LASIK uses wavefront technology that improves the performance and quality of your individualized vision correction. A wavefront analyzer is able to generate a 3-D map of your entire optical system that gives your surgeon a highly-detailed view of your individual eye. This is effectively a unique “fingerprint of your vision”, and provides us with extremely precise and detailed information about your vision. This customized unique map of your eye is then loaded into the computer of the excimer laser, which generates a wavefront customized treatment appropriate for the individual “fingerprint” of your eye.
The wavefront analyzer used in Custom LASIK makes the procedure as much as 25 times more precise than standard LASIK. Studies have shown this precise level of customization allows the patient to experience better vision than is possible with glasses or contacts, reduces the chance of night-vision disturbances and glare, and gives the patient a greater chance of achieving 20/20 vision. Results of an FDA clinical trial of this technology demonstrated than an incredible 94 percent of patients treated were able to see 20/20 or better without glasses. Four times as many people in the trial were very satisfied with their night vision after Custom LASIK, compared to their night vision before with glasses or contacts. These results are superior to those obtained with standard laser correction. Custom correction can be applied to both LASIK and PRK treatments.
We now offer Iris Registration. This technology has brought Custom LASIK and PRK to a whole new level of precision and accuracy. The eyes of some patients rotate when they go from a sitting to a lying position. To take this difference rate into account, Iris Registration takes a photographic image of the iris at the same time it does a wavefront image assessment. This picture is then used by the laser to confirm that the treatment is in perfect alignment in order to maximize effectiveness of the laser treatment.
